Three years ago we found a very nice and meditative approach to exploring France – boating along its rivers and canals.
We so enjoyed our travel that come to the decision, that it is a perfect way to show the wine (and not only wine) side of France to the lovers of wine and travel.
At the beginning of October, we invited our compotators companions on board, and started our movement along the Yonne river, switching her waters with the waters of the Canal du Nivernais from time to time. This canal links the Loire with the Seine, following approximately the Yonne. It is connected with the Yonne by numerous locks, and the boat route is switched constantly between the river and the canal. We started our journey in the small, ancient, and very beautiful town of Joigny, and finished in the little village of Corbigny.
The weather was not too kind to us (well, October it October), but it didn’t spoil our impression of the journey too much. Burgundy is a wine and gastronomical haven, and we enjoyed it at full capacity.
About waterways of France, boats, and other useful stuff I wrote in the notes about our Aquitane journey, and don’t want to repeat it again. So, this info you can find here.
So, we are starting our journey on the waters and vineyards of North Burgundy.
To be continued…
