Okay, the plural probably isn’t really applicable here. There was only one bear.
According to the information on the hatchery’s website, when there are a lot of bears around, access is closed to people, to avoid conflicts. But there were plenty of people, and there was just one young black bear. And he wasn’t bothered by anyone. Though, to be fair, he wasn’t bothering anyone either. He simply pretended there was nobody around.
He snagged a fish right in the thick of the salmon mayhem, had himself a little snack,

and then went for a stroll around the neighborhood.
