Autumn in the Rocky Mountains. Pocaterra Ridge

Autumn in the Rocky Mountains

We were slightly afraid after Fair View Mountain hike and decided to avoid further overpopulated Banff and concentrated on Kananaskis, where all nice places can be reached only by hike, preferably by a long hike.

In the first place, we went to Pocaterra Ridge. This ridge goes in parallel with the road (or road goes in parallel with the ridge that has more sense). So you go up to the ridge, follow it’s to the end, and go down to the road in about 15 km from your car. So, you need two cars or do hitchhike. The trail is about 20 km with 1000 meters elevation gain.

Start

After a short time in the forest, the trail come to the larch haven.

Pocaterra – the closest mountain on the right.

Lake at the mountain bottom.

Some people do biking on Pocaterra. Well, don’t recommend.

Up to the mountains.

Last flowers.

Troll’s ear on the pass.

Bighorn sheep.

On the ridge.

Our way ahead of us.

Another angle.

Last glance on the valley from where we came.

On the ridge.

And finally steep descent to the road. Hikers in this place are very friendly, so we easily hitchhiked to our car.

To be continued….
