Every year I and Co climb Mt Rainier. Well, not exactly every year, but sometimes we do it twice a year, so, on average every year.
Hereyou can see some of these climbs with photos. Last year we planned but didn’t have a chance, because I started to brake my leg just in a couple of days before the planned date. As a result, this year was impossible to miss. Also, our friend Yulya wanted to meet with this mountain, so we did it again on the third weekend of July.
Because last four times we climbed this mountain via Muir Camp, this time we did it via Cam Shurman for a change.
Our GPS-track.
The approach along the river was beautiful as usual, but the heat almost took me, as it did this whole summer.
A couple of gliders made circles above the Interglacier.
View from Interglacier.
We decided to make a camp at the top of Iterglacier. it was warm but windy.
Rainier at sunset.
In the early morning, we started our way to the summit. I should say that I climbed Mt Rainier via Shurman several times, and every time it was a straight forward route through Emmons glacier from Camp Shurman to the crater rim.
This time Emmons glacier was not so nice as before. First, it had a lot of huge crevasses, and we spent a lot of time avoiding them. Second, we should make a huge unpredictable loop near the top. Here our GPS-track. Just look at this loop.
It was not cold, but very windy, especially on the top. The slope was icy, I didn’t want to lose any part of my equipment, so I didn’t take many photos.
The pleasant bonus of our trip was descent on Interglacuer. Just gliding on the bottoms from the top directly to the base. 800 meters of altitude in 20 minutes. It was a real fan.
It was a good climb, so it better not to miss an annual Rainier next time.
