Snohomish River

The weather around May 9th was exceptionally summerish, about +30C, so we quickly remembered how nicely we opened the water season and decided to repeat and extend.

On May 7th we repeated our way from Gold Bar to Monroe. Because of high temperature, the water level rose even more (the river originated from the glacier) and it was even funnier than the first time.

On May 8th we made a break for biking (the bike trails are open now!), and on May 9th went on Snohomish River again, but this time to continue the way from Monroe to Ferry Baker Island that is an almost river mouth.

Start from Monroe.

Looks like we forgot somebody. Looks like we forgot me.

Below Monroe the river quickly becomes full-flowing, its speed decreases, and rowing requires more effort than on the upper part.

There are plenty of birds on the river – geese, mergansers, swallows, bald eagles, plovers, ospreys and others.

Local rivers are definitely not straight. At start GPS shown 23 km to the finish as a crow flys. After 4 km of rowing, it was 24 km to the finish. Where we are going? In average, a river in 1.5 longer than the distance as a crow flies.

Snohomish, that is not only the river but also the town and the county.

Baker ahead of us.

Rainier behind.

It was a stampede on the River near Snohomish town. People brought all existed motorized watercraft on the river. The noise was unbelievable.

Below Snohomish town, both banks were decorated with historical remains of an unclear proposition. They all are covered with fresh growths.

Near the ocean, the river is deep and wide. There is an exposition of old sea vessels near the bank.

Family of tug-boats.

The new and functional boat also presents.

Somebody’s little house on the water with little shed and a nice boat.

Somebody has a boat shed bigger than the house. And it is right. Who needs a big house if can travel?

More closer to the ocean – bigger the boats.

It was the time of high tide, so we should put more afford to row against the stream.

Thus, 36 km from Monroe to Ferry Baker Island. We definitely like the Snohomish river and come back again.
